ACCA Qualification

An internationally recognised technical vocational qualification offered by the ACCA, providing an introduction to the basic theory, principles and practice of accountancy. It is designed to equip students with the necessary technical skills and knowledge required to fulfill a support role in accountancy.

The qualification requires completion of 9 academic examinations (taken twice annually or via CBE) and relevant practical experience. The academic component has three levels:

Introductory: consists of 2 papers introducing the basic principles and concepts around the operational aspects of maintaining accounting records, provision of management information and in the use of information technology systems.

Intermediate: consists of 2 papers building on the introductory level, by developing knowledge and technical skills in the areas of financial accounting, preparation of basic financial statements and the preparation of cost and management accounting data.

Advanced: consisting a compulsory module of 3 papers and an Options module of 3 papers of which only 2 must be taken. The advanced level seeks to ensure that the accounting technician can apply all the necessary skills in the accounting and finance environment that will ensure effectiveness in their support roles, primarily in completion of year end financial statements, performance management and management of people and systems.

Value: The CAT Qualification allows you to start a career in finance, gain recognition for the wealth of skills and experience already accomplished by you, or can even be used as a stepping stone to accelerating your entry and progression through the ACCA Qualification scheme.

Entry requirements: There are no formal academic entry requirements for the CAT Qualification, however any prrevious qualifications held may afford you some exemptions.

Exemptions: on application to ACCA to become a student of the CAT Qualification, persons may be eligible for exemptions from the introductory or intermediate levels based on previous courses of study. While these exemptions are available, depending on your current position, experience and most recent period of study, it may be reccommended that you forgo available exemptions in the interest of refreshing your previous knowledge.

Technician Registrations: individuals wishing to pursue this qualification must become duly registered with ACCA. In order to be eligible for June examination sittings technician registrations must be completed by December 31st of the previous year, while technician registrations completed by August 15th will allow eligibility for December sittings of the same year.

Registrations may be completed at our offices, or via ACCA's Online portal.
